I think that the cops were exercising something called restraint. It seems the Brits still have that. America, not so much. They would both have been tased and carted off to jail, no air ambulance for you! Cops here never rule in the possibility of insanity and treat everybody as a common criminal regardless of the motivation for their actions.

Oh the British police here were perfectly right to employ restraint, they just failed to read the entire dictionary entry. The best way to deal with a pair of insane b1tches who just ran across the freeway is physical restraint, not chatting each other up in front of the camera while the crazies are allowed to roam free on the shoulder. Who'd have thunk that those daft Swedes would go back to their crazed meanderings if left to their own devices? Any competent cop would have had those two cuffed in the back of a patrol car before mugging it up for the camera. Better to be bludgeoned and tased than roadkill

Reddit had a long thread on the original story and a followup. Seems the last one standing, the one restrained, later went on to stab a 54 year old man to death and jump off a freeway overpass into traffic. Naturally she lived after the second jump. Man they make some hardy women in Sweden.

When I first read the title and text under I thought maybe they were talking about unsupervised brats... But then I read and watched the story in the link... and I was struck by one thing: Why the fuck weren't those women handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser the first time they were brought under 'control'? The cops had them rounded up at the side of the road without any use of force and they let them get away?? What the fuck!? I may not agree with the way police in North America use excessive use of force in more than a few instances lately, but at least we always make sure that no matter what the person(s) taken into custody (for what ever reason) don't get away like that.

I could see this here in US as you are better off dead after getting arrested here. Easy to see why so many run. My dad as an MP treated German POW's well and let the word get back to their home. Made them less afraid to surrender, as seen later in Desert Storm.

OK, let's look at this rationally. The cops arrive to find two women pissing about on the highway. They try to avoid the cops and in doing so one is hit by a car. The cops now, and quite correctly, see this as an RTA (Road Traffic Accident). They restrain one woman and try to comfort the one that has been used as a soccer ball by the car. To everyone's surprise she gets up off the road, and starts running daft until she collects another car, meanwhile the second one goes under a HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle). Now I do know that in the USA the cops taser everyone without even giving it a thought. However tasers have not been issued to very many police forces in the UK and the cops there have some limitations before they can use handcuffs. Silly little things like arresting the person first. All that said, I seriously doubt that even in Texas the cops would have restrained someone who has just been hit by a car and is lying in the road doing a remarkably good impression of being seriously injured. Obviously the pair were on drugs and it looked like the drug in question allowed them to use the reserves of strength normally only available in dire emergencies. The one who was hit twice by cars took quite a lot of holding down, six people if I remember correctly. I think that the cops did a hell of a lot better than anyone who writes in here could have done.
