Sunspot Deficit Disorder
Montana State University | Submitted by: Bad Bird
"Tsuneta said solar physicists aren't like weather forecasters; They can't predict the future. They do have the ability to observe, however, and they have observed a longer-than-normal period of solar inactivity. In the past, they observed that the sun once went 50 years without producing sunspots. That period coincided with a little ice age on Earth that lasted from 1650 to 1700."

Forth after dark... a time I do know In my kingdom... I enter to my own world Open the gate... of a mountain of dark Rising with the shadow... a dark world made for me Black my mind... black my heart... In my kingdom... I enter to my own world Open the gate... of a mountain of black Rising with the shadow... a black world made for me Frozen and cold... an existence I do know... In my kingdom cold I enter this condition Open the gate... of a mountain of ice Rising with the shadows... a cold world made for me Forth after dark... a time I do know In my kingdom... I enter to my own world Open the gate... of a mountain of dark Rising with the shadow... a dark world made for me In my kingdom cold... At the mountains of madness Unending grimness These mountains which I heart In my kingdom cold... At the mountains of madness Unending grimness this kingdom it is mine...

Well, if we get another Maunder Minimum ( little ice age ) that might help offset the global warming, er climate change. I could go for some cooler weather right now for damned sure.

Two sunspots are staring at me One to the left and one to the right of me Never seen a heat so extraordinaire Just two sunspots so so so scared Just two sunspots Just two sunspots Just two sunspots Spots are burning a hole in my eyes Just two rough round red raw real sunspots Rough to the touch and shy of the air They start a little fire and the weather ain't fair. Just two sunspots Just two sunspots - The Stranglers

Pissing away money. I thought the little ice age went from 1300 to 1850, But I watch The History Channel to much.

atomheart, it did, and they figure the cause was little to no sunspot activity and lower solar output as a result. Believe it or not, before 1300 england had better grape crops than france and had better wine as a result. Seems it was warmer then than now.

OK , SLOW news day. Trying to drum up some excitment fer a really boring satellite program. Ok .. THE headline scare.. Little ICE Age. Then says FIFTY YEARS IN A ROW of NO sunspot activity coincided with it. No sunspots fer Two years..(yawn) I think I'll hold off ANOTHER 48 more years before I'll worry about an ICE AGE comin.

I've read the article. It's interesting, especially since sunspots are linked to warmth on the sun and thusly a warmer earth. I know some of the anti-warming forces (having given up on the idea of CO2 as a cooling gas) have latched on a possible Maunder Minimum occurring in another eleven years (with its own morale: Burn and Let Loose more CO2). It may be, of course, that that Maunder Minimum may already be starting. It would help explain why the past year and a half has actually cooled down (1998 was an outlier, however the years between it and 2007 were on average warmer than everything between 1972 and 1998). That, and China and an exploding volcano in the south.

So if we get fantastically lucky and a new Maunder minimum holds back the effects of global warming, we can all party like it's 1979? Especially since AIDS is not a problem any more [see yesterday's story]. What could possibly go wrong with that?

Speaking of woodie wood pecker. I had this misguided pecker-head (my nick-name for wood peckers) that was pecking at the vinyl siding of my house. And the damn vinyl seemed to amplify the sound of his pecking that it sounded like a jack-hammer going to town on the house. I yelled at the mudder fuggin' pecker-head a few times and haven't heard him since. Surrounded by thousands of trees and this dumb-ass bird picks my house to try and find a meal.

So how long should we wait before Al Gore starts railing against Global cooling and starts blaming it on our cutting down on carbon emissions "too much"? Seriously the man is worse than a menopausal old lady, "It's too hot, turn down the heat. Now it's too cold, turn it back up. It's too hot...."

Eggie, try to "adopt" a stray cat that's about a year old, or younger. You can always go to your local SPCA, and ask them to show you an outdoor cat that is fixed.

If we have another ice age, does that mean the n!ggers will die off? Al Gore can have the credit for inventing the next ice age. Fucking idiot.
