My dad used to be a parole officer. One of his parolees had a bad tooth, so his mom pulled it with a pair of pliers. Because the tooth was rotten, the crown snapped off, leaving a good hunk of the root in his jaw. (Must have been infernally painful.) But being the kind of ignorant family that produces a son who has to go on parole for something, they ignored it. So the wound got infected. His whole head swelled up to twice his size, he had to be put in intensive care, he nearly died. Don't pull your own tooth, dumbass. Unless you want to end up as a story on here. There's a reason dentists have to go to school for years; dentistry is just like everything else in life, it's complicated and lots of shit can go wrong and kill you. You've only got one head, you know. Once you fuck it up you're shit outta luck.

If its not loose, and you can't work its way out..you have to see a dentist. Teeth have roots, sometimes they wrap around the jaw bone and make it impossible to pull without professional help. If it is already loose just try a sawing motion back and forth gently, little by little. But your best bet is a dentist with a molar. For pain, take an anti-inflammitory..bayer aspirin is good. Believe it or not, pain meds don't help that much. Or maybe oil of cloves, you can get it at a pharmacy. Please don't try to pull it by yourself if it isn't already loose. :( The socket will need rinsed and packed. Make sure your hands are clean and gauze is sterile when you use it. Keep gauze in the socket until bleeding stops. One of the worse things to experience is a dry socket from letting the air to it too quick. I don't advise doing this on your own, You need a dentist. Complications can arise easily.

I spent $8,000 in one year having a dentist catch up with a few years of me being uninsured, and it sucked, but, well... Find a way. Otherwise it's gonna be a long, painful road. You'll never get all of a molar out without assistance from someone with a strong gut, and at the very least a few ropes and a lot of liquor. I'm really sorry I'm going against what you wanted to hear, but I'm just speaking the truth from someone who was convinced he could take care of his own teeth. I've solved plenty of other problems, but with molars it's either a proper removal, of find a mob doc and hope he works fast.

lostgod, Do you have some aspirin or motrin? you need an ant-inflammitory. Narcotic pain meds hardly touch this kind of thing. Keep you mouth as clean as you can..dont try peroxide tho, if nerves are exposed it can bring you to your knees. A little warm salt water can help. Bayer aspirin is the best, its the strongest. Or motrin 800 is good, however you need a script for that. So take regular motrin, with food of course so as not to upset your stomach. Same thing with aspirin. Warm a cloth also, and hold it to your cheek. that may bring a little relief. quick way to warm it, wet it and put it in a sealed plastic bag, then nuke it in the microwave. for a few seconds. Each time it cools off, you can nuke it again. I'm relieved you are going to a dentist. Sorry you are in such pain. If need be, can u get your dentist to sign a slip for emergency treatment and take it to the depart of social services. (welfare) If they see the note, they may make a referral for you and pay for it. I wish you the best.

ps if you are going to try the warm rag thing..leave a little bit of the bag open at the top..just a margin or so as not to make the bag blow up in the oven. Thought I should add that, its all you need now to hear a big bang and think you've been shot at. OMG. The warmth does help, it kind of sooths. You can always numb the gums around it with maximum strength Orajel for an added boost, until you can see a dentist. Im rinsing with listerine at least 3 times a day...a friend of mine told me to do that....he also gave me some prescription mouthwash from him when his wisdom teeth holes got infected (dry sockets)....but i dont take pills. ever. maybe i should start, but im scared of pills....yes, in general....i know it doesnt make sense, but....? I haven't had to take them yet, and I am OLD! I dont think I require any kind of pill, be it bayer or whatever that shit is unnatural......i dunno, drug companies scare the shit out of me....if its prescribed by a bonified doctor, then, of course I'll take it.......but look at that pill....you might not need it. It might do more worse than good. it might kill you. They may have fucked up in the manufacturing......naturally recovering has always worked for me for 25 years...... Drug companies are fucking RUTHLESS. Who cannot live without drugs these days? humans? So many people that I know are on antidepressant drugs, which they probably dont need in the first place....people think they can solve anything with a fucking chemical. I dont know, but Im not gonna totally trust anyone, especially about depression......if someone would compare the antidepressants usage now vs. 15 years ago.....well..basically it would show that a lot more people think they are depressed now, which may or may not be true....and all i got is fucking tooth..... sorry for the long rant. .....how are hospitals paid? sometimes they are not at all....but do you think drug companies have a large part? do you think you were ever prescribed a drug just for that reason? just wondering...

All I can think of re: this tooth thing is that scene in the Tom Hank's movie (what the hell is the one called where he's stuck on an island alone for like 2 years?). You know the scene. With the iceskate. Bad teeth (and especially infections) are no joke. I know someone at work who ignored it, eventually lost the tooth, but the infection had spread to bone, to the point where the cheekbone on one side of her face had to be entirely removed. She never felt a thing, until the doc took an x-ray one day. Btw, she looks completely normal, just like someone with a narrow face. Infections can also spread to the bloodstream. You don't even wanna go there.

Anyone heard of the documentary Loose Change 911? They have been talking about this all morning on the radio. It suggest that the plane that hit the towers were empty and that the passengers are in protective custody now. It suggest that the plane that hit the Pentagon was shot down. It says that in July before the attacks that Bin Laden was in a hospital here in the states and was visited by government officials. I dont really know what to think of it. Just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this. BTW I feel complete compassion and am saddened for anyone who has lost a loved one in these attacks.

Lostgod, I know that you say you are poor one suggestion is to go to your local dental college. In most places they have open walk in's. There is still a charge but it is dramatically lower than going to an office. While they are students they are supervised by actual dentists so the care is good but about a 1/3 the cost.

Part of their "motivational" technique was always to pick on someone, probably the fat kid, and hit him with some jibe that was alleged to be "tough love" good advice, but really just motivated everyone else by making them glad they weren't him (I was friends with the fat kid; does it show?). My best motivation growing up was my Uncle Gene. Dad would say "stay the hell in school, don't drink, and don't knock anyone up, or you'll end up like Gene."

lostgod, you shouldn't be afraid of aspirin. i know you referred to all pills as unnatural, but aspirin tablets are only a nearly-identical, synthetic version of a chemical - acetyl-salicylic acid - which is found naturally in the bark of the willow tree. You can actually go out and chew some willow bark and get the same effect, only it tastes bitter and terrible. Aspirin is also good for your heart and circulatory system, and generally makes you feel better all over (unless you have a really sensitive stomach). i'm going to take some right now...anyone have any home remedies/ advice for lung cancer? p.s. i hope your tooth is o.k. i stopped drinking soda several years ago and have not had any dental problems since; maybe it's a coincidence but i think that shit is poison.

Gelkaker-Get the book, "A Cure for All Cancers". It has all kinds of natural/herbal remedies. For starters, take black walnut tincture-1 eyedropper full, wormwood-1 eyedropper full, and a 00 capsule size of fresh ground cloves. You can find most of these in health food stores, maybe Whole Foods has them. In Pasadena, CA, Wild Oats store has them.
