"The use of micro-expressions to identify hidden emotions began nearly 30 years ago when Ekman and colleague Maureen O’Sullivan began studying videotapes of people telling lies. When they slowed the videotapes, they noticed distinct facial movements and began to catalog them. The Department of Homeland Security hopes to dramatically enhance such security practices."

Micro-expression, just another buzz-word to make the ignorant public think detecting lies is somehow scientific rather than simple logic and guesswork. Right up there with the, at best, 70% accurate polygraph test. My girlfriend's sister is a pathological liar. When she confessed to killing her infant second cousin, the polygraph indicated she told the truth about that but lied telling her own name. Fortunately the cops were actually looking for the truth rather than a simple arrest.

bwa ha ha.. they'll believe whatever they are told or else they will go along for the good, and an industry will be born of it, and the few will get rich, the common man is oh too common, a mere resource. hitler worked on schemes like this with far lesser technology and went far with it. the world had to turn itself inside out to stop him.

At first I was a bit concerned, attendants, ticket takers, baggage handlers being put in charge of determining who is safe and who isn't based merely on facial clues? But then I read " American officers receive 56 hours of training." What a relief! I feel safer already! I hope the day will come as soon as possible that our wonderful leaders can read our minds and not just our faces.

This won't work on politicians and other pathological liars, only on normal people who lie on rare occasion. It's all part of the long-term plan to make everyone some sort of criminal. Once they get something on the average, decent, law-abiding citizens everywhere, they have total control of everything. They are almost there right now, but there are still a few stray honest people who haven't been charged with some crime yet.

Shades of Orwell's 1984 grow neigh. I agree with those who say "micro-expressions" is just a catch phrase with which to throw people in the catch-all terrorism machine. Those guys couldn't catch their own ass with both hands. How are they gonna catch micro-expressions? I can see it now. "Hey bob, that guy just had a micro-expression. I think we should throw him in gitmo and dissapear him and his whole family."

I got a neighbor who's face looks like saran wrap due to a fire he was in. Now tell me, how the hell are these geniuses going to tell when he's lieing? I don't care if he's lieing or not, I just don't look him directly in the face, just in his eyes. I really have too much empathy for him to worry weather he's lieing. He's a great man and he's pretty hilarious at times.Holloween is his favorite time cuz he scares the shit out of a lot of people then. He puts on fake blood and Billy Bob teeth. It's a party with him around sometimes.

Ekman facial expression was used in the making of gollum in lord of the rings. They have 50 ways just to make gollum smile. it was awesome.
