Polar Bear + Grizzly Bear "hook up"
AP | Submitted by: cracker666 [honky infidel]
"A DNA test has confirmed what zoologists, hunters and aboriginal trackers in the far northern reaches of Canada have dreamed of for years: the first documented case of a grizzly-polar bear in the wild." ... "Kuptana, [a guide], was tracking with [an] Idaho big-game [hunter], who paid $45,450 for a license to hunt polar bears. The DNA results were good news for the 65-year-old hunter, who was facing a possible $909 fine and up to a year in jail for shooting a grizzly."

Are you volunteering to go collect DNA from live grizzlys? Have you seen Grizzly Man by chance?

Ummmmmm I've seen guys tranq grizzlys and tag them for tracking purposes so its not a big deal to get DNA from a live grizzly.

Of course someone killed it. That fucking sucks!

From: canadianguy [CanadianGuy]

That might explain how a grizzly got to the region, but few can explain how it managed to get along with a polar bear long enough to mate.

I can't believe the people here who are so outraged that a bear is dead. He killed it with a hunting permit, not to paint the house with its blood or something weird.

Are there this many vegans on Rotten they you're going to get pissed because someone hunted for bear, and did well? I say good shot!

I was going to make a comment like that, but I didn't want to assume since I didn't see it mention what sex each was. It coulda been a male grizzly getting it on with a female polar bear. Whether it was white on brown or brown on white, I bet they were on the interracial bear porn site where you can see the fine white bears taking in the huge brown cock. Brown slut with big tits sucks and fucks white bear! Once the money was in front of her she had a pussy stuffed full of giant grizzly meat.

Ok, I'll stop there. Those are actual interracial porn blurbs, just changed slightly to reflect polar and grizzle bears.

What a fucking moron. He paid 45k to shoot a fucking teddy and he frets over a fine of less than a thousand? That's hardly a punishment. If this man can whip a Lexus from his pocket with no problem, then a 89 Volkswagen Golf is no sweat. What he should get is jailtime. And have his asshole presented to a horny bear.

From: frankrizzo [Frank Rizzo]
Date: 11-May-2006 17:36

Before any of you teary-eyed fucks flame on, realize this:

$45 thousand dollars! That's 5 figures, Canadian or American money, that's still a hefty sum. If he paid that much cash to hunt one animal, do you think he would ever had pulled the trigger if he had a doubt as to the bear's pedigree? It doesn't cost ANYTHING to poach, unless that is, you're caught in the act or in possession.

And where do you think that money goes? With most hunting licenses, permits and stamps in N. America, the money goes directly to habitat protection/expansion and other programs to help ensure a strong and healthy herd, pack or flock for future generations. In fact, many studies have found that funds from legitimate sportsmen have helped certain species thrive where they would otherwise be extinct or nearly so.

From: superpants
Date: 11-May-2006 17:49

as for the uproar regarding the shooting of the bear, it's not like anyone knew it was a hybrid before it was shot. antihunting groups are using this bear like a poster child for their cause. perhaps the animal was incapable of reproducing (like a mule, for instance).

the male was the grissly, the female was the polar bear. the dark coated male probably wanted to appear successful to his friends by having a white female...

(sorry if the last paragraph offends anyone. i was thinking of not writing it, but it was too funny not to write. if you are a non-white reading this, i mean you no offense.)

Why should he be punished for anything? He had a license to shoot a polar bear and he shot a polar bear. It was only on close examination that anyone could have suspected it was part grizzly. Until then 100% of all white bears ever seen there had been polar bears. There was no reason to suspect otherwise.

I remembered this similar story from '96
and Googled it and got this charming tale:

LOS ANGELES (Reuter) - Marine biologists and park rangers at
a nature preserve off the California coast are on the lookout
for an amorous, overgrown sea lion who has given new meaning to
the term "fatal attraction."
Nicknamed "the Marauder of San Miguel Island," the 1,800-
pound male is believed to have killed up to 50 female sea lions
annually in the past five years by crushing them to death with
his inept mating attempts, authorities said Sunday.
Scientists call him a freak of nature -- a rare hybrid giant
resulting from the union of a large Steller sea lion and a
smaller California species.

Cool, huh?

Interesting stuff:

Bears

The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) and the grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) are not different 'races', but different species altogether:

"...The Brown Bear and Polar Bear diverged from a common ancestor around 2 million years ago and crosses between the two species produce fertile hybrids. They only lost their Brown Bear molars between 10 and 20 thousand years ago."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear

Humans

As can be expected, scientific research into the differences between human races is complicated both politically, socially, and genetically, but all humans are much more closely related than bears and can be considered 'subspecies' at best.

"...The existing fossil evidence suggests that anatomically modern humans evolved in Africa, within the last ∼200,000 years, from a pre-existing population of humans...It is believed that humans passed through a population bottleneck before a rapid expansion coinciding with migrations out of Africa leading to an African-Eurasian divergence around 100,000 years ago (ca. 5,000 generations), followed by a European-Asian divergence about 40,000 years ago (ca. 2,000 generations).

The tiger lives alone, hunts alone and dies alone. They are not a "social" animal like alion that lives in a pack and can rely on the pack for protection. Tigers must be on guard against other aggressive species and so they are tuned to kill and eat. Much like house cats.

_____________________________________________________________________

There are a few reports of albino black bears- but the difference in size, geography and overall body shape makes the two completely recognizable as different (if you know what to look for, anyway)

And sorry, folks, but how the bloody hell was anyone to know that the bear wasn't a polar bear? (And FYI, polars are doing just fine up here in numbers, the hunt isn't a big one for the most part, and the majority of the bears killed are killed for food resources, not for trophies). Until you get close enough, the two seem almost identical- from a distance, only the colour and the hump are visibly identifiable. It's isn't until you get close enough that you can see the ringed eyes, claw length and slight difference in facial shape. If you're stupid enough to try and check that shit out while the bear's alive, well, you might just get your own article on rotten some day.

The hunter himself had experienced guides with him, and even they didn't know for sure it wasn't a polar until it was dead. As much as the idea of big -game hunters bothers me (the ones who do it for trophies and bragging, not because they intend to use the animal in it's entirity), this guy didn't know what he was about to shoot wasn't just another polar.

Most of them eat meat and don't like to think about where it comes from.If some stupid bastard wants to fork over fifty grand to hunt a bear you tree huggers should celebrate. That kind of dough creates incentive to save the environment that bambi and thumper live in ,you simps.Yell all you want about ego and penis size, pure ass capatilism is the only thing that will keep habitat viable.Human nature being what it is,we will pave the fucking world and put in 7/11's unless someone is making a buck off of the natural resources. The Masaai in Africa have began policing poachers of lions because they make too much money selling hunting permits to do otherwise.

yeah, that's true, but it wouldn't be the same joke wise.

I haven't done much looking into race origins, no more than to realize much of anything doing with race IQ, origins, etc have more to do with racial politics than with science. I have heard DNA researches say that there would be more difference between a white European and an Australian Aborigine than between a black American and a white American. As for origins, there is a place for history, but at the same time, we need to live for here and now. Roots are fine to use as a ground, but too many people in my opinion get tangled up in them.
