"In time for the anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner's 90th birthday on July 18, President George W. Bush signed a bill Tuesday which effectively ended a system in which Mandela had to get special certification from the US secretary of state that he is not a terrorist in order to visit the United States."

Funnily enough I was discussing the definition of a terrorist v's a freedom fighter on another forum today. Ones guy definition was: "When the Afghans were fighting the Soviets they were freedom fighters. When they turned on the Americans they became terrorists"

Al Qaeda fought Soviet INVADERS to keep them out of the country. When they decided that all western culture was to be eliminated and attacked us they became terrorists. Get it?

So how long do you reckon before our new friends in Afghanistan "become terrorists" too ? You know everything would have worked out a lot simpler and probably fewer people would have been killed if in 1979 the US and the Soviets had agreed that the Soviets were fucking welcome to invade Afghanistan in return for not kicking up a fucking stink over the US doing likewise in Iran. The only downside would be The Soviet empire would have lasted another 5-10 years.

Vomit It's always tit for tat in proxy wars. Soviets and China in Vietnam; US in Afghanistan. You mean Iraq, right? And no they would always pounce on the opportunity to try to guilt or embarrass us out of any military action as we would do to them. We want Iraq stable because our European Allies have been flooded by refugees from that region. We also need a stable Iraq to trade with and quite possibly another staging area for future conflicts.

"Iran" was correct. When we supported the Mujahideen (not the same thing as al-Qaeda) against the Russkies (1979-1989), Iran was the thorn in our side (hostage crisis)and we did call the Taliban "Freeedom Fighters" in spite of their tyranny, 'cos they were *our* sons of bitches. When they protected the Taliban in 2001, they became the enemy and the excesses of their rule finally denounced. No al-Qaeda until 1988 and Osama did not appear until even later.

I don't know.. Let's be honest about this.. The ANC did in fact commit what could easily been considered amoral, terrible illegal acts throughout it's history. Being labeled a "Terrorist" organization at one point just means they were Outgunned and out organized at the time.. Acts somewhat LESS GLOBAL tahn say, the United States and the CIA fer example..
