Record Drug Stash Carpet-Bombed

"Two Harriers launched a strike on a huge cache of 260 tons of [hashish], stuffed in sacks of grain and buried in trenches and underground bunkers in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan. The combat aircraft dropped 1,000lb bombs on the hiding place, which also included 2.5 tons of raw opium... The previous record was set by Colombia's security forces when they uncovered 81 tons of coca."

That's how the farmers make money since their usual crops cannot be brought to harvest quickly, and they have NOTHING. This is fucking inhumane bullshit. It should be noted that they can not going around destroying every poppy crop they see, because a) That's the only source of income for some farmers, & b) There are legal crops that the farmers extract opium from to make painkillers such as morphine or diacetylmorphine etc...

The small town I grew up in would have a big bonfire every year to destroy all the confiscated dope. A great, big public spectacle that would have me and my buddies standing down wind for hours. It took the cops a while to catch on, then fun time was over. They actually wanted to arrest us. Now that was rotten.
