Reading is Fundamental
The Local | Submitted by: Bitch: Empress of PMS
"A 32 year old drama student was convicted on Wednesday of sexual abuse and fined for reading pornographic stories to a group of kindergarten children as part of a study project, Stockholm district court said. The student, whose name was not disclosed, was fined 2,400 kronor for reading two stories to a group of 15 six year olds. The children were filmed during the readings to study their facial expressions. The two stories concerned homosexual sex acts between eight year old boys and girls." [Hi Kathryn.]

By all means, folks, keep your kids from becoming aware of the choices that await them until it is too late, and they wind up so screwed up that they resort to sexomnia or they don't get screwed at all.

There is a difference in discussing sex and sexual orientation to children of the proper age (8 is a tad early for a serious talk) and read porn to a group of children. From the judges ruling, it was hard core porn that was being read. If they said soft core, then I might have some doubts that it wasn't appropriate, but with hard core it definitely isn't appropriate.

Homosexual acts between boys and girls, hm?

Sounds like someone wants to make us think this is particularly depraved.

"the video footage showed that some of the children had reacted strongly and negatively to the reading."

Some of the children?

C'mon now, isn't anyone thinking about the rest of the children who reacted strongly and POSITIVELY to the reading?

When I was eight, my mom and dad got me the American Children's Bible. It was neat and had pictures and, best of all, the Holy Words of Jesus were in bright red and "in English, just the way Jesus spoke it".

Many a night I spent masturbating to that Good Book, knowing that God was watching me.

I think its pretty funny that this assignment was for a DRAMA class! Obviously they don't know how to read books about research that has already been done by professionals. What work were they playing on performing? Child pornography tape #2?

"some of the children had reacted strongly and negatively to the reading."

I hardly think this was due to the content, when reading to a group of 6 year olds there's always going to be some who are going to mess around or complain, it's still there when they're teenagers. I strongly doubt that the kids were disgusted at the moral implication of the text. This story is all about how the adults who found out are appalled.

If my childhood is anything to go by, the kids probably are having homosexual contact with each other already, and the only ones shocked are the adults.

There was a story here on rotten a while back about two 9 and 10 year old boys caught giving each other blow jobs at the back of the room. Yes folks, it happens. Don't people remember ANYTHING about their childhoods?

And I went to a religious school. None of that liberal shit where they tell you sex is bad.

I wonder how many corrections the kids made to the teacher about how it's done.

[The Stockholm district court] added that "reading pornography to children should, in line with current mores in society, be considered unsuitable and indecent."

I'm actually impressed. That's a very reasonable answer. In the states, I'd expect something like, "This situation is deplorable and an affront to our society and in the eyes of God." That, and a pedophilia charge.

From: brightwood [Bright]

ChoMo, Hoagey?

You know, it might just be true that what you say about me reveals more about you than it does about me.

If someone doesn't try to show those six-year-olds something that someone might want them to do well before the eventuality occurs, then when someone asks them to do it, they will have developed much less of an idea how to respond, and are going to be much more likely to at least try to do whatever it is that is asked of them.

If you don't teach a kid how to steal, you'll never actually teach them not to steal, and it will just be dumb blind luck if they don't wind up getting caught some day stealing.

If you don't teach a kid something significant about what drugs look like, how each drug gets used, and what some of the misperceived benefits are from using drugs, it will just be dumb and blind luck if they don't wind up getting caught up in drugs.

If you don't teach a kid something about sex and sensuality and all that well before they hit puberty, they'll have so little idea about what's happening when they reach puberty that they'll start to feel very uncomfortable around their family whom they perceive as going through the change, and they'll be more prone to hang around their friends, and learning all they can about sex and sensuality from their friends. And it will be just plain dumb and blind luck if they don't become parents or of they don't become strongly emotionally bonded to someone who has no more clue about true and lasting love than they do.

Anybody who thinks that kids are better off not knowing about the major choices that lie ahead of them are failing to help them plan, which is the same thing as helping them plan to fail.

From: melvin69 [John Bong]
Date: 2-Dec-2005 21:54

brightwood, I see your point, though my thought is 6 is a bit too early for hard core porn. The way the article is written, they weren't being read something that was appropriate for their age. I think that is the way most people in this thread see it.

I've always been of the opinion teens from Catholic (Christian or whatever) schools tend to be bigger sluts than those in public schools. Tell a teen not to do something is a great way to get them to do it.

From: tempestdra [Huh?]
Date: 2-Dec-2005 22:30

Yeah, I get the immpression from the article that they weren't being read educational material. I totally believe in making sure kids know what this stuff is, not just so that they can recognize it when they grow older but so they can recognize just what Uncle Bobby is doing..
But I digress. Reading something like "The man may fondle the woman's clitoris before inserting his penis," is acceptable(hell, insert some slang in there too, but make it clear that it's explaining what is going on.) Just... don't read a kid, "He thumbed her hard nubbin while wriggling his thick fingers in her slick depths, then withdrew his hands and hilted his raging manhood into her womb," because they're not going to have a fucking clue what you're reading anyway.

Criminally charging and fining the student is excessive. None of those children were sexually abused, so why charge her with that?

From: robwrigley
Date: 3-Dec-2005 01:38

How about charging him, and his professors, with being idiots? Whether you think it is acceptable or not (and I do not think it is, but won't make any hysterical claims as to why), it's stupid to do this and not expect to get in trouble. At very least, they should have gotten signed releases from the parents of the children.

But the real issue here isn't that funny. This fellow is either very naive, or a pedaphile.

Hey, wait...he should also be fined for being a 32 year-old drama student. A 32-YEAR-OLD DRAMA STUDENT!!! God damn it, get a hair-cut, move out of your parents basement, and get a fucking job.

If I found out my son was a 32-year-old drama student, I'd smack him upside the head. And then smack his mother, and myself. If I then found out he was reading hard-core porn to 6-year-olds...'scientific' study or not, I'd turn us all in the authorities. That's just bad parenting.
