Seriously, don't let the bedbugs bite
AZ Central | Submitted by: azdollarbill
"Two Swiss women who spent a week at a Manhattan hotel have filed a lawsuit saying they had a lousy time trying to sleep there because they were bitten by bedbugs." ... "[Their lawyer] said that when the women told hotel employees that they were uncomfortable and something was wrong, one worker immediately exclaimed, Bedbugs!"

Ok, so why did they stay in a place that had bugs in the beds? I guess they have never heard of finding another hotel.

Ah, you know the Swiss. They probably figured it was jetlag and tried to come to a peaceful solution all by themselves, before realizing that it wasn't their fault.

""That tells us that this hotel was certainly on notice that they had a bedbug problem," the lawyer said."

Ha. All hotels are on notice that they have a bedbug problem. All this means is that the maids for that floor are by now seeking a new job for not looking hard enough at the beds as they change the sheets.

["They were eaten alive," Ebanks said Wednesday]

Most women I know would love to be eaten alive...actually when I eat my girlfriend (while she's alive of course) she hollers out to God and sez she's coming (I don't know why she's telling God this because I'd rather she stay around a while)

Sue the people who had the room before them, too. And the bedbugs. Fuck it, and Manhattan. Okay, and me too. But you can't squeeze blood from a stone.

I used to work (as a waiter, thank god) at a hotel that got a bedbug problem. It went unsuspected for a long time, because people in this day and age just don't expect vermin. Since massed bedbug bites look a lot like hives, people thought they were allergic to our fabric softener, or something. The infestation came to light when a guest went to scratch himself in the night, and came up with a handful of these little horrors stuck under his fingernails. Eurrgh. Just thinking about this incident makes me want to go have a wash in carbolic acid. The worst bit is, if you've stayed in a bedbug infested room, they've probably infested your clothing and luggage, too. The maids probably weren't fired, because they'd already quit.

Uh oh, could this mean these swiss ladies may have actually smuggled american bedbugs back to europe? Will the euro-bedbugs be able to understand the U.S.bedbugs with their little new york accents?

When I was a kid my gran-ma used to always tell me NOT to put my coat on or sit a bed at whomever's house I was going to go play at. Now that I'm a little older I know why! Believe it or not bedbugs are once again becoming a problem in the US.

They have been running a series on bed bugs on CNN, & they have stated that they are very hard to get rid of. They only come out at night, & hide themselves inside the mattress, under the rug, & even inside the walls, during the day. It is extremely easy to bring them with you when you leave an infested room. The only upside, if you could call it that, is that they do not pose any health threat.

I won't swear to it, but I think that diatomaceous earth will kill bedbugs. Bedbugs have very soft shells and the diatoms will scratch right through them.

From: popo [insert witticism]

Actually, lowbrow swiss cheese is manufactured that way. Used to be drilled when you bought the whole weel, but they quickly figured out ways to 'form' it. It all hails to an ancient wintertime Swiss tradition called Weihnachtskaeseschnipplungszeit, literally xmas cheese carving time.

/bullshit

I like the idea of drilling cheese. Sounds like diseased sex.

hahahha I know the answer to that too and its all from one of my favorite book series:
"The cheese industry prefers to call these openings eyes rather than holes. The eyes are created by expanding gases that are emitted by a bacterium know as the eye former. The eye former is introduced during the early stages of Swiss cheese production. The bascterium forms the holes, helps ripen the cheese and lends Swiss cheese its distinctive flavor.
The eyes, then, are not there for cosmetic reasons. Still, some domestic "Swiss" cheesemakers mechanically "add" holes to already formed cheese produced without the eye-former bacterium. This shortcut is what robs some domestic varieties of the mature flavor of genuine Swiss cheese"

AERDNA said:"He was giving you fake cheese."

Actually it tasted like Swiss Cheese. If it was fake, it didn't taste any different. Now the thing that I always wondered about was what he did with the cheese he drilled out to make the holes. He used a hand gizmo, designed for the purpose, not a regular style drill, and the cheese would come out in a long tube. I asked him if I could have some, but he said that he had another use for it. So here we are some 45 years later...

He must've been working on a cheese mine for his progeny by squirreling into some hidden cavern. This cheese-drilling thing is interesting. I bet they have a special word for it.

Here's some more about the little buggers:

"It used to be just hotels and motels."

The bugs are living in homes, apartments, hotels, motels, dormitories, shelters and buses all across America,

Bed bugs began their comeback after the pesticide DDT was banned in this country in 1972.

The prevalence of affordable international travel also has helped them regain their footing.

Bed bugs earned their name by being nocturnal and consuming human blood while people sleep.

But the insect does not spread disease and poses no health threat.
