This is THE big story in the New York metro area. She was out slumming on the lower east side, drinking in a couple of bars. Her friend failed to persuade her to leave with her at 330 am, she stayed out alone drinking. She was abducted and killed brutally. Rather poor judgment on her part. A couple of days later, a teenage black girl was found dead in the same area, hardly a peep out of the press. This happens fairly frequently in New York, how much press it's given depends totally on class and race.

this girl had to be extremely naive. this is an area where you can frequent but never alone. walking into a stange bar on the lower east side after a few drinks and being an attractive young women at closing time makes you a target. this is right next to the bowery which is full of prostitution and drugs. for a young person you can have a great time at some of the clubs, like CBGB'S if their still open however you must travel in groups. i've never heard of a group of women being raped , imean in this country. it makes sense that they are questioning the bouncer in the club because he had the opportunity. i think they have to look at the bartender who said he saw her walk out the door and turned toward lafeyette st.

I don't know if I would judge her that harshly, but at the risk of ruflling a few people... WTF is with girls wanting to hang out after all her friends have left the bar/club after 3am? Especially in NYC. There are some stupid ass/sadistic people around the entire Lower East including the Delancy Project residents and anyone around the Bowery Mission. This almost happened to a friend of mine on the West Coast. Her friends left,she stayed at the bar, decides to walk home, and got followed by some sick fuck that forced her into a building lobby. He was not trying to rob her. Luckily she screamed at the top of her lungs, and some people called the police. She's still a little fucked up from all this. All because she wanted to hang out a little longer. WTF? It's like I always say, find/call someone you know to walk you home, or spring for the cab. (Make sure its got an operable lock on the inside). Okay I'm done.

I've been following this on msnbc for a while, it was gawd awful the way she was brutalized. However, I did not hear ONE STORY on any news about the black gal who was killed. Now I'm wondering why and if this was in the same fashion then they owe it to morbid minded people like myself to know the details. Stupid stupid press, reminds me of all the publicity given to that one little girl when she was found brutally murdered and left in a posturing that gave the killer a thrill..she was taken care of by her grandma and snatched right out of her yard while playing...can't remember her name now, (a few years back) In that same week however, a "poor parent" also lost their son to a murder, was never heard about! Predjudice parallels the amount of bucks you have too, not only color.

In my partying days I don't remember ever going to a bar alone...I was afraid to do it then, and much more afraid to do it now. By 4 am she had to have been bombed unless just a "sipper" and that is rare in clubs to party in. It just doesn't make sense to go alone, get some party animals to go with you if thats what your in the mood for, theirs more fun in numbers, and safer too.

this girl was not caucasion, very attractive however and perfect story for the media. bella nyc is the greatest place in the world for entertainment be it dining, theatre or clubs and anything else you might want to do. but an attractive women who has been drinking should never walk into any strange bar at closing time anywhere. not her fault though she should not have been raped, beaten and tortured and then murdered.when i was young i bartended to make extra money and i've seen a lot. you especially don't go to cop bar. they will defintely have their way with you but they won't murder you

This story doesn't make any sense. Who ditches her friends to go to another bar at 4AM? She was meeting someone, for sure. Today's news says that the bouncer is being questioned. He totally shoved a sock down her throat and wrapped her head in packing tape!!!

Noticed a couple people mentioning a later killing of a black girl and it not receiving very much media attention, claiming bias in the media as the cause. Far be it for me to be one to feel the need to defend the media (bunch of fear-mongering idiots that they are), but let's face it, the media loves fear and tragedy as it makes good script and keeps the general public tuned in. (Higher ratings mean higher prices for the advertising!) I'd look at other possible reasons for the second story being suppressed. Perhaps trying to let on to the criminal that their MO has not been completely stumbled upon, allowing the criminal a greater sense of confidence (which is when criminals make critical mistakes). Or, it could just be plain old pressure from the police commissioner ("Hey, we're having a tough time on this one, but we're working it, cut us some slack and we'll let you in a bit further on the next good story"). I think people are far too eager to jump on the racial bias train without stopping and thinking. Shit like that just gives the idea of racism and prejudice more power.
