Phelps and his family have made a name for themselves by showing up at high-profile events preaching their hate-filled brand of Christianity. They blame homosexuals for the destruction of America."

The Patriot Guard Riders seem to be a good response to the shit that these assholes are displaying at funerals, but I wonder where the gay community is. You would think that they would be also in the face of this family, since it appears they are doing this because of their hatred towards gays. Course no body would want to see them around disrupting a funeral either.

Protesting at funerals is disgusting. They say the soldiers are fighting for an army that represents a country that accepts homosexuality. If they hated the country for this reason to the extent God supposedly does, they'd pack up and move to the Congo or wherever. Fanatics like this usually just talk to hear themselves and are to be paid no mind, except perhaps to be quietly laughed at every so often.

In fact a lot of the Catholic Ceromonies are for the Moon Goddess and her Brother Apollo the Sun god who the Christain version of Jesus was templated over. 4) Considering Jesus told the religious leaders to go fuck themselves, going so far as to topple their tables and calling them hypocrites for thinking they can "sell salvation" , have the right to say who they think should have God's favor, and there is "favored people" in God's eyes, I don't think Jesus would be to thrill that the Christian Religion that says they are representing his ideals are preaching the very things he and his Apostiles were against (Religion,Favored Casts systems,Hatred,intollerance)

I have no problem with the existence of God, just any religion that tries to tell me that they know what GOD thinks(What the religion creators says), know what GOD wants us to do(What the Church authority says should be done), knows how GOD wants us to live (the Way the Religion's creators want their flock to live), and only by doing what THEY tell you to do can you have Favor with GOD I'm sorry, but with a almost infinate Universe out there and over 30 million spices just on Earth I have no reason to belive any particular creature, namely Humans, would have any favor over the rest of exitence to anything capable of "just thinking" such things into being.......it all could be a "brain fart" for all we know.

YES! Fred Phelps is fucking awesome. He's not only a trainwreck of a human, but he puts himself on display for all to watch and enjoy. I present to you, my fellow Rotteners, the abridged Fred Phelps reader's companion: -Refused to speak to his father and cut him out of his life because his dad married a divorced woman, and Fred would send back Christmas cards unopened. -Was asked to leave Bob Jones University because he wouldn't seek psychological help. (Bob Jones banned interracial dating until the late 90's because they claimed the Bible forbid it. When Bob Jones thinks you're nuts you got problems.) -When he was at another church (prior to Westboro) his infant son was squirming around during one of Fred's sermons. So what does Fred do? Goes up and repeatedly punches his son in the face of course. -One time Fred was extremely stoned and drunk (he used to be addicted to speed, barbiturates and booze) and he shotgunned to death a German Shepherd because it took a shit on his lawn. -Fred used to weigh over 300 pounds (he was also addicted to binge eating) and at one point he would lock himself in his bedroom and eat for days and then when he did come out he would go nuts and rage at the kids and smash plates of food against the walls, a la Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. -Fred got too fat to work so he made his kids sell candy to earn money (he got the candy by defrauding the manufacturer out of $125,000 worth of product, which resulted in 2 unresolved lawsuits). Fred made the kids meet a quota for candy sales and if they didn't, he beat them. One time 2 of Fred's kids were assaulted by a switchblade-wielding transgendered "woman" because Fred made them sell candy (alone) at night in the bad part of town. Eventually Fred ran out of candy and forced the kids to steal and pickpocket all over town. -Fred tried to commit suicide (with a shotgun of course) when he was drunk but missed and shot a hole in the wall. Then he overdosed on speed and alcohol and went into a coma for a week. -Fred got out of the coma and decided he didn't like being fat anymore, thus he decided to lose all the weight by drinking only water for weeks and abstaining from food. But Fred got pissed off that his kids weren't as into starving themselves as he was, so he instituted daily 10 mile family marathons that included his 6 and 8 year old. Anyone who beat Fred got a beating. -Fred one time got pissed off because his son was dating a girl named Debbie Valgos. Among the things that disturbed Fred was the fact that she was exposing his son to contemporary music and roller skating. So what did Fred do? "One day the elder Phelps informed his congregation that he was considering allowing Fred Jr. and Valgos to pursue their relationship, under the condition that Valgos attend church services at Westboro. When Valgos arrived for her first sermon, the church bulletin board read "Debbie Valgos: The Whore of Topeka," with Phelps' sermon being nothing more than an hour long attack on Debbie Valgos, accusing her of a variety of perverse sexual acts. This continued on for several weeks, with Phelps apologizing each week to Valgos, only for her to return the next week and suffer increasingly vulgar attacks. These culminated in Phelps assaulting Valgos at a crowded roller rink, resulting in Valgos suffering an epileptic fit." Then Fred's son and Debbie ran away together but Fred ain't having none of that, so he kidnapped his own son at gunpoint and held him hostage. Fred's son and Debbie broke up. Then a couple months later Debbie died from taking tainted drugs and suffering internal injuries. Fred's reaction was priceless: "The morning following her death, Fred Phelps broke the news to the rest of his family by dancing through the house singing "the whore is dead" to the tune of "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" from The Wizard of Oz." Some of Fred's kids think he might have arranged Debbie's death and everyone generally blames him in one form or another. -Did I mention that Fred was a lawyer? He was. Fred finally got disbarred in 1989 and every single federal judge in the state of Kansas signed the motion for disbarment. -Oh and Fred is also an author! "Phelps also wrote a book in the 1980s with his son-in-law, Brent D. Roper, called The Conspiracy. In the book, Roper and Phelps claim to possess evidence that AIDS spontaneously generated in Africa; Truman Capote contracted the disease during an orgy with African tribesmen; Capote then gave the disease to John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe by playing football with them; and that the CIA assassinated all three to prevent the spread of the disease. Phelps published and distributed the book himself; it was also sold in the back of Peter J. Peters catalog of extremist literature, and thus became a widely circulated text among such groups as the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Brotherhood, and Christian Identity." -Fred has traveled to Iraq and was a fan of Saddam Hussein. -Fred has written Fidel Castro letters (one was published in Harpers Magazine) and Fred is a fan of Fidel also because he believes Fidel is sufficiently anti-gay. -Fred Phelps and Al Gore used to be buds. Seriously. "In the 1980s, the Phelps family were strong political allies with then-senator Al Gore. The home of Fred Jr., Phelps' eldest son, located in the Westboro compound, acted as Gore's campaign quarters for one of his senate races, and the Westboro compound was host to a fundraiser. Numerous photos exist on the internet of Fred Phelps Jr. and his second wife, Betty Phelps-Schurle, posing with Al and Tipper Gore in Phelps Jr.'s home. Phelps also served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988." -Fred and his wife were invited to both Clinton-Gore inaugural balls, though after Fred and the entire congregation showed up at the 1997 one to protest the administration's friendliness to gay-rights, one would imagine Fred Phelps was no longer in Al Gore's rolodex. -Fred picketed Al Gore's dad's funeral. -Fred has a "burning hatred" for Scandinavians and Lutherans for a variety of insane reasons. -Fred Phelps is super Christmasy! One Christmas Eve in the 1970s while under the influence, Fred woke 2 of his sons up and bent them over a bathtub, striking them nearly 300 times with the mattock handle. -Fred Phelps was investigated numerous times for child abuse when his (now adult) children were kids. One time they showed up at school with weeping wounds, bruises and the shit generally beaten out of them. One of the boys was diagnosed by a school nurse as being in shock. -Fred (a lawyer remember) has been convicted of crimes on NINE different occasions and has been arrested a shitload of other times but has managed to avoid jail with his crafty legal maneuvering (aka bullshit technicalities). -Fred believes that George Bush worships Mr. Peanut, whose name is the great god Goober. Some people think this is proof that Fred may have Alzheimer's but given that Fred is fucking insane, who could tell the difference? -Fred hates a shitload of people. Everyone knows that he protested Matthew Shepard's funeral, and that he protested IN FAVOR of 9/11 and at about 80 military funerals (in 30 states) for soldiers killed in Iraq but did you also know that Fred targeted a deceased Mr. Rogers, Coretta Scott King, the crew of the Columbia shuttle, and the West Virginia miners because they were all allegedly homosexual, supported homosexuality, failed to condemn homosexuality, or their deaths are suggested to be caused by God as punishment for America's tolerance for homosexuals? Yup. -In 2003 Fred wanted to build a monument in honor of the MURDER of Matthew Shepard. He wanted the monument to read: "MATTHEW SHEPARD, Entered Hell October 12, 1998, in Defiance of God's Warning: 'Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is an abomination.' Leviticus 18:22." The city council in Casper, WY was understandably not too hot on this idea and turned Fred down so, in turn, Phelps threatened to sue the city, claiming that by denying him the right to erect the monument, they are violating his right to freedom of religion. Phelps has since filed numerous other lawsuits against various other counties across the United States in efforts to erect other such monuments. Seriously, Fred Phelps has to be the patron saint of Rotten.com Furthermore, as much as Mr. Phelps is a horrible bigot and a shit stain of a human being, you sort of have to admire the guy because I'd wager he has more balls than anyone who has ever lived. This is why I hate the church. I'm a christian, though not strong practicionner. However, the only things I believe in are the existence of god and his son Jesus and his resurrection. Don't ask me to prove it though, I'm a fucking biochemist, not a theologist. Like I said a few days ago, religion is about faith, not science. And sometimes, when you've got nothing left, then at least you can hang on to faith. But the church is fucking up everything. They modified the bible so many times to fit their needs for power that it's not the ghost of what it once was. Unreliable. Only bits of the gospel of John keep some good information within them since John was so fucking cryptic. Hell, I once read a part of John's gospel when Jesus talks about how organized religion sucks balls, though it's too cryptic for dumbass priests to figure out. I need to find it back one day, it's just so fucking ironic. I however look forward to the translation of Judas Iscariote's gospel which was found not long ago. I always thought the guy wasn't as much a fuckwad as the church made him out to be, and the gospel supposedly contains Judas' side of the story. Now, if it can get translated before the church gets its hands on it, we might finally get an unmodified gospel. With the true teachings of the christ, not the church's hate propaganda. That would rule. Anyway, fuck organized religion.

Our little rotten community lets mr phelps get out of context as far as taking him seriously. A few tears back a homo named matt shepard was killed in laramie wy. His funeral was in casper wy where i am from which was protested by the phelps bunch. I had the honor of having to tow a car by the park they were protesting at and got a first hand look at this bunch of losers. they were a bunch of people that looked like the tard that was kicked out of the movies a few days ago. They couldnt read the signs they were holding. They gave more fire to the fag matt shepard murder which pissed me off. Actually, I've never seen why people say Michael Moore is such a dick. Most of those people come up with stuff, saying that this and this in his movies is exaggerated or false. However, when I ask them to prove that to me, it's usually real hard. The only sites "proving" Moore is a shithead that I've seen are right wing sites, and it's pretty easy to prove their data was pulled out of Bush's anus. When they DO get something right, it's usually completely irrelevant. So, someone tell me why Moore is so bad.

Micheal is not "bad" per se,and he does have his points. I just dont like his smirky if you dont agree with me you are an idiot posture.Lots of pretty smart people are fairly conservative.That didnt used to have as much moral/religious/Newt Gingrich neo-con baggage attached to it.Just because I live in the midwest and own a gun doesnt make me a neo-con or a religious nut job.I vote democratic 90% of the time but I would prefer to keep all my rights not just the ones that Micheal Moore likes.Micheal Moore used to be a lot more objective(and funnier) when he wasnt such a big name.Nowadays he is just a little too full of himself and his crusades.He lumps all gun owners together with the far right and makes the classic Democrat mistake of alienating the moderate masses in the states between the beltway and California.I have said it before,geographic location does not equate intelligence and moral superiority.

"So, someone tell me why Moore is so bad. " Because he's just as much of a hypocrite as the people he blasts. During Farenheit 9/11, there is a part where he has quips of one of Condi's speeches. Now, in the movie, what she says TOTALLY proves his point. When one reads the transcript of the interview, they find that the parts of her speech are taken out of order, out of context and when read (or viewed) as a whole, the point he is trying to prove with her words is moot. I'm not a Condi fan by any stretch, but I think it makes Moore an asshat for criticising others for doing exactly what he does for a living- mass producing misleading material to back up his own political beliefs. If he didn't call the others jerks for twisting the truth while doing it himself, I'd not have a problem with him.

How in the 9 hells did Micheal Moore and 9/11 get into this. Truth is the Movie was a Comedy and he had made such "documentries" on Clinton and other figures, and Mr. Moore isn't all that political which is why he attended both political conventions. And even with that "Slacker Vote incentive" thing he wasn't telling college kids who to vote for, but to get involved and vote in trade for a year supply of Raimin noodles cause the sad truth is more People vote on American Idol in any given week then have voted in all combined elections for the last few decades in the Presidential Elections or House/Senate and Local elections for that matter......then they complain when the people they didn't vote for run things poorly. And Hel is the Finnish Goddess of Death who used to take the ead the other gods didn't want back to her dungeon to be tortured for all eternity that the Romans probably based their Christain "Hell" on......though in truth Most Churches had actual dungeons during the Inqusition years to torture people into conversion or anytime they didn't do what the Church Authorities said until someone in the Church Aurthority figured out that it was cheaper and more effective to just tell thier flock of "a eternal Dungeon of torture and damnation" if they weren't good little girls and boys that did exactly what they were told to do by the Preists and other Church Authorities.

As far as I know, Fred has a Biblical reference for most of what he preaches, although I don't know where Finland comes into the picture. I've read the Bible and each denomination has a cute little way of taking the scriptures out of context and twisting it to their own liking. Just like the different versions out there, not all of them support old King James, a lot of them go with the newer versions that have definetly been "revised", also the Catholic Bible is different than the Protestant, so who in the hell can quote any particular scripture for real?

The political influence on the Catholic church (and by proxy the church's official text) was phenomenal during the early-middle stages of Christianity. Entire chapters were stuck in (compared to oldest known version), entire other chapters excluded, whole books lost (ever heard of the Gospel of Thomas? It's an awesome read, actually) and all because the politicians needed the churches help keeping the people in line. That's why I don't like any faith that uses the Bible as a superior social method than common sense.

Yeah, we here in Omaha are waiting to see if Phred shows up at a funeral for a local soldier. Most of my friends are saving really old fruit and eggs just to make Phred feel welcome here. I am a former soldier and I must say while I don't support this war I support those that are fighting it (my little brother included). God forbid something happens to him but if it does and Phred shows up at the funeral rest assured that all of you Rotteners here today can say that you know the guy that curbed Phred Phelps.
