Crash! Pedophile dies, boy ejected
CNN | Submitted by: duo
"A convicted sex offender was killed and a 14-year-old boy injured when a stolen vehicle the man was driving slammed into an 18-wheeler following a high speed police chase, authorities said Friday." ... "He didn't appear to be avoiding oncoming traffic, ... and we believe this was intentional," said Colleton County Sheriff's Deputy Ted Stanfield.

Let me see:

Someone is driving erratically enough to warrant a stop
on the suspicion that driver is not in good control of
his vehicle.

In the just interest of public safety a deputy makes a
traffic stop to get the driver off a public highway.

Driver takes off.

We now have a deputy pursuing a probably impaired driver
on public roadways in traffic at speeds of 100 mph
for
some 6 miles.

Here comes the question:

Have those morons never heard of radio ahead?

What if it had been a family in an ordinary car instead of
a semi? How many would have died? This is the fucking XXIst
Century.

In the meantime a 14 yr-old kid is in the hospital and was
probably scared shitless (nightmares galore) and the fucker
escapes a richly deserved prison term by killing himself.

Deputy and/or department policy makers are fucktards and
should be sued by the parents and fired.

From: ro [Ro]
Date: 9-Sep-2006 18:03

I see no problem in his killing self, other than the posibility it was intentional, and the additional trauma the 14 year old will be facing. It seems the rotten news today is full of economically friendly fucktards!

From: dadofautism [*****]
Date: 9-Sep-2006 18:31

I guess the strange thing to me is that the kid's family wasn't worried and that the connecticut police weren't treating it as a kidnaapping. There has to be more to it than that, like the dad gave the pedo the kid to pay off a gambling debt, or something.

From: daredevil [CameronVale]
Date: 9-Sep-2006 18:46

Maybe the kid dug cock.

In which case the heading of the story should be....(drum roll)

"Crash. Pedophile dies, boy dejected".

lol!

What should they have done Absinthe? At 100 MPH, it only takes around 3 minutes to go 6 miles. He ran into oncoming traffic and hit a truck head on, does that sound like someone who would stop for a road block?

I thought you'd be among the last people here to blame the actions of a criminal on the police.

..........................................

Radio ahead and Stinger-type spike strips.

light-weight variant used by various police forces is the Stinger.
It is manufactured in the United States by Federal Signal Corporation.
It is designed to be easy to deploy, to puncture all four tires on the
pursued vehicle, and to leave no debris which could affect following
vehicles. It is packaged in a concertina form, with a tough frame of
nylon strips holding pointed steel tubes. In use it is spread out
across a surface or even thrown towards approaching vehicles, spreading
out during flight. An attached rope makes it easy to regather after
use before pursuing vehicles also run over it. The construction of the
strip points the spikes into the tires as they pass over, and the spikes
then detach and remain in the tires, their hollow construction assisting
n the venting of air over 10 to 20 seconds.

I am not blaming the police for the actions of the criminal.

I am blaming the police for their own actions, which imply a blatant
disregard for public safety, especially when the driver already seemed
unstable. We have technology to take care of such situations. Hot
pursuit should be used only as a very last resort and in extreme cases.
A stolen vehicle does not qualify. Note that the rest of the story
only came out *after* the crash.

In 2006, we have the tools.

There will probably be a suit and the taxpayers will pay the bill.

You must be reading a different story than I. It says the chase started when the cop saw him driving erratically and motioned for him to pull over. I don't see where he got pulled over and took off, nor do I see what evidence he saw that the driver may be unstable. He chased him for no more than 4 minutes.

How many officers were close enough to cut him off?

How many tries would it have taken to throw the strips in a place the driver would have run over, but nobody else? I doubt they would throw them across the entire freeway, they'd have to pick a lane and hope the driver doesn't swerve out of the way.

Even if they did do that(we don't know they weren't preparing to) the cop still has go fast enough to stay in sight of the vehicle.

Auldu - still not a sufficient misdeed to endanger civilians.

I never said that the perp's car stopped. I said that the deputy
made a traffic stop with sirens and lights and that the suspect
responded to the stop by taking off instead of pulling over.

I also don't see a major difference between "erratic" and "unstable",
especially when the individual flees to avoid the police.

"A police officer in Walterboro, S.C., spotted the car yesterday
morning and used lights and sirens to signal Mauro to pull over,
Conklin said. Mauro sped up, and the officer chased him. It ended
when Mauro crossed over the highway divider and smashed head-on
into a tractor-trailer, Conklin said."

http://tinyurl.com/kfhmh

"Mauro's apparent suicide ended a wild 6-mile chase at speeds of
more than 110 mph
. Police said Mauro swerved across a median and
drove 500 yards against traffic to hit the tractor-trailer."

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/450885p-379437c.html

That's not exactly "keeping in sight". Innocent people could
have died for a situation that was not life-threatening.

There's such a thing as cost/benefit ratio.

"Driving erratically".

Heehee, I'd be driving erotically if I had a cute 14yr old polishing my helmet.

From: aulduron [Aulduron]
Date: 10-Sep-2006 09:02

There was already an alert (I assume much like an APB) for the car.

To me, driving erratically could mean he was changing radio stations or had dropped a cigarette in his lap. Being unstable means he might drive into oncoming traffic in a murder suicide attempt. I don't know exactly how many times per day a cop sees someone driving erratically, but I bet that only one out of every few thousand erratic drivers actually jump the median and kill themselves when they see those bubblegums in their mirror.

I'm sure your math is better than mine but 500 yards is 1500 feet, which is only about a one third of a mile. 120 mph is 2 miles every minute or 1 mile in 30 seconds, which means he was on the wrong side of the road for about 10 seconds out of the 3 minutes the entire chase lasted.

How much time does it take to coordinate the half dozen or so squad cars it would take to set up a spike strip ambush? I wonder if he ever got close enough to see his plates.

Driving erratically at high speeds on mountain roads is a life threatening situation.

He didn't know he had kidnapped a child, but he didn't know he would kill himself and anyone in the way either.

Yay!! This was just on one of the local channels in SC last week. I think the SUV hit right between the end of the cab and the trailer. The truck wasn't really damaged too bad. It was a red truck... not relevant, I know.... it was reported that this guy had told relatives that if he was ever cornered by police, it would be a suicide by cops. I'm glad the kid made it, but I'm sure he's pretty traumatised. And I feel really bad for the trucker. Can you imagine, just driving along, doing your job, and then some sick fuck comes out of nowhere... you're swerving, trying to keep from killing more people, and then the fucker hits you, fucking up your truck, fucking up your day... Sucks for him.... Truckers don't have it that easy.

Every day I drove a truck people tried to use me as a suicide weapon, especially in Chicago. There are dozens of people alive today only because I saw them coming and decided to hit the brakes or change lanes. I could have legally allowed them all to die, and never endangered my own well being.

That driver now has a fatality on his record which, even though he bore 0% responsibility for it, will prevent him from being hired for some of the best driving jobs.
