The rationale behind criminalizing the possession of underage pornography is that actual people are being used to produce the material, a case of very serious harmful exploitation. It attacks the demand to shut off the supply. Good idea. However, in this case, no one was exploited. The judge's reasoning is right along the lines of the assholes who want to ban all porn because "it gives ideas to the pervs". Stupid and dangerous thinking. One does not make up for a horrendously lousy verdict by invoking a fucked up argument.

Seems to me there are two issues here. First, the question of kiddie porn. What a mess of a concept. Who has not run into the 12 year old Lolita who uses her new sexuality to manipulate men? I can legally have sex with a 16 year old but if I have a nudie photo of her, I can be thrown in jail. Second issue is whether he was committing a 'harm' against another by his activities. It could be argued that this was how he was attempting to deal with these unwanted impulses which rule his life, in a manner which did no harm to others. As such, it could be justifiable. Methinks that his efforts, described in the article, to get help with his condition, should have been seen by the judge as more of a mitigating factor when rendering his decision. Poor bastard. Sucks to be him.

The police did not bother to say why it took them two months to make that announcement, nor why they give week-end passes to murderers they consider dangerous. The Home Office, which is in charge of the police would not make a statement because the matter in now in police hands.
