The Chinese military is big and useless. They don't ever fight for anything that the soldier actually believes in, kind of like most other large armies, so relatively small and poorly armed groups can do a lot of damage. Great Britain vs Afghanistan = GB loses USA vs Vietnam = USA loses China vs Vietnam = China loses USSR vs Afghanistan = USSR loses Coalition of the willing vs rag tag Iraqis = COW will lose Coalition vs Afghanistan = Coalition will lose Even if they do win the thing will drag out and inspire others in the empire to try the same thing, in time it always falls apart. My wife is Japanese, and hates China with an iridescent passion. When I left her alone at a restaurant's bar to use the toilet, some Englishman had mistaken her for Chinese. Oops! I don't hate China. I was there in 1987, and the locals were very nice to me, especially a 19 year-old gal named Zhuan. The ladies at work the next morning were suprised and delighted a young white man would call a Chinese lady "beautiful". In California they would have been rather less suprised. At drinking hour, when we were poured something much like like vodka, I knocked it back in 12-oz tumblers while the Chinese carefully mixed beer with orangeade. My father said, "I could take you to Russia," when I tossed it down straight. I hope the Chinese police do what they do so well with these bastards.

From my perception of this crazy world. The difference between the chinese and westerners seems to be ambition. In north america, Asians (rich and poor) attempt to acheive further education, work hard at any job (sciences, financials, toilet scrubbing). While most americans have an entitlement belief(rich or poor)that everything will work out peachy in ther favor, if not they blame their govment for their woes. China also seems to recognize the differnce between the doers and the eaters. In North America our lower classes seem to be "kindered" and allowed to believe that change will be brought to them. Almost as if they are creating a type of dumbed down consumerist cattle.

I find myself agreeing with aulduron.The us fought to a draw in korea,we took our toys and went home in vietnam.In both instances china was a key player. We were in their backyard. The usa has so many treaties and alliances(shared defense,mutual aid)with so many countries that we could be drawn into a war in that manner.I see no way of the us winning a conventional war against china.

I didn't say we lost,I said we took our toys and went home.We were doing well or better in vietnam until tet.We and the south beat the nva and vc bloody.I believe their kia count was around 50,000 All you could read or hear about though were the attacks on saigon,da nang,and hue.Hue was the only true battle.The other two would be terrorist attacks.The liberal media wasn't kept in check and reported opinion as fact. Public opinion slowly but surely turned against the war. We"lost" our first war,scarred our military, and betrayed a lot of good people.I have a vested interest in that time period and war. The hippies would have done better if they'd have just stuck to fucking for peace though.I'll give you that.imo

Other than the 375 hours of live televised synchronized swimming these games should be interesting. I'm waiting for the stadium to fall over because of corrupt contractors and shoddy workmanship, swimmers keeling over because of toxic water, runners dropping over from the carbon monoxide, people keeling over from food poisoning, chinese officials locking up protesters. Chinese are also very patriotic. When I was in China, there were major border skirmishes going on with Vietnam, and one of my friends told me that a lot of volunteers were being turned away from the PLA (army). I had a footrace with some female PLA soldiers one evening while I was out looking for a drink. After I won, I repeated the exercise carrying one piggyback, but I insisted on a longer race, since the extra weight would take me longer to build up speed. I also insisted on running barefoot. Zhuan was about 5'2" and 100 pounds. I won that as well; I started on all fours and grabbed her legs once I was upright. I cheat and use my toes at speed, for a longer stride. The young ladies and I had drinks and snacks afterward, and they swatted mosquitos. I never got bit. They were suprised and delighted when I told them they were pretty. I kissed and petted Zhuan for some time while she sat on my lap. She'd never been kissed before. The other yong women wanted to be kissed as well, so I obliged. At the time, it was very illegal for non-Chinese to have sex with natives, but kissing and petting wasn't illegal. They had a morning formation, and so we eventually parted company. If the Muzzies pick a fight with China, they'll run into soldiers who like whites, but are Chinese all the way. The Muzzies won't win. One of the monuments I saw there was a tomb in Nanjing for the Chinese Nationalist soldiers who died in the war with Japan. Every single fallen man's name is there. The tomb was shabby and unkempt, but the Communists left the Nationalist starburst emblem there, because the dead were Chinese.
