Auldu, there's such a thing as non-economic damages. There's some legislation afoot at this time to cap them to a "reasonable amount". Besides there seems to be reasonable grounds for a charge of Blackmail: They did threaten to reveal true information to the public unless a demand they made was met by the victim. As the information was true, there's no criminal case (but maybe civil) in revealing it. The crime lies in attaching conditions to their not revealing the affair. I hope she sues their ass.

What i find so amusing is how all of these fundie freaks gt to justify their actions, no matter how crazy or mean, by saying it comes from a place of love, kind of like a mother who bitch slaps her child because she loves her. I highly doubt they are doing this out of love, there is some sort of other twisted reason. And I also applaud the woman for making this public. They are trying to shame her into submission within the church community, then it only makes sense to shame the church within the greater community. Fundamentalist types are for the most part beyond sleaze, because they genuionly 'feel' they operate on a higher spiritua level, and thus the sorts of behavior they condemn others for is a-ok when exhibited by them. Example: I know two fundamentalist women I used to be pretty good friends with, untill I grew tired of their proselytizing. They would always subtley harras me because I shamlessly would have sex before marriage and cause I would date multiple women at one time. In their 'book' this was bad, and they would try and get me to stop doing it, not by telling me I was hellbound, but by trying to convince me that sex would be sooo much more enjoyable if I abstained and married a woman who did the same, telling me that me and my bride would have our whole lives to explorer our sexuality and have great sex. I would of course tell them that I could imagine nothing worse then getting hitched to a women who had had no sexual 'practice' whatsoever. Also, they were the biggest flirts, and behaved suggestivley all the time, but it was ok for them, cause they were already saved, right? So many of their friends were soooo quick to get married (in their early 20s) no doubt cause they were sex mad, and wanted to have sex minus the anxiety of being destined for eternal hellfire. What a bunch of douches... I reflexivley and justifiably distrust overly religious types who wont shut the fuck up about how much they love God. Whatever your beliefes, God bless you, as long as you don't use them to like those girls did, and like that womans church did...

I have read the letter to Rebecca Hancock from the Elders of Grace Cummunity Church and agree that this is legally and blatantly an attempt to extort behaviour favourable to the church.
