Office Gunman In Orlando Spree
Washington Post | Submitted by: shazb0t
"A 40-year-old former engineer who was fired two years ago apparently returned to his former firm and shot six people, killing one, Friday morning in an Orlando high-rise, according to police and his former employer... Swat teams and ambulances descended on the 16-story Gateway Center office building after receiving reports of shots having been fired at 11 a.m. Friday morning."

Relatively weak. Shoulda shot himself.

Only managed to kill one? Lousy shot, take his gun away.

GIve him back his gun so he can finish his work. Efficient population control.

The Association of Latin-Americans have distanced themselves from Mr. Rodriguez and would like you to know that this is not part of a plot to kill Americans.

It took Rodriguez two years to work up the courage to implement his revenge. In that time he should have been able to come up with something more creative than a "single gunman" attack. The final toll of only one dead is pitiful.

It almost wasn't worth it.

He said he was angry that they had laid him off and just "left him to rot"...

well, one of his former associates will be rotting now...

So, who holds the record for mass murder in one spree?

You mean this loser, despite having an engineering degree and living in a state that is not dependent upon the American automakers, can't find a job in two years? Too bad nobody ever explained to him that a job isn't going to find you, you have to find a job. Worthless piece of shit should have killed himself.

**************************

I think it's one of the 9/11 hijacker incidents, but it used to be the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City by Tim McVeigh (168 victims).

Before that, it was the intentional torching of the Happy Land Social club in NYC by Cuban refugee Julio González...he murdered 87 people with a buck's worth of gasoline.

Cho still holds the record for direct killing. Nothing like a locked building full of college kids to really rack up the points.

The two most anal types of students at school were always the engineers and the chemists.

Guess who always cracks? I'll tell you who it's not - the bio major!

I took engineering, practiced 5 years. I backed out & became a mechanic, wouldn't let my kid take major. We leave it to the Chinese and Indians at $10 an hour anyway. Admitting to being an engineer was the biggest conversation stopper at a party. I kept it quiet. I did get to invent a lotta cool shit, but do it as a mech tech also.

*****************************

Naw, about half of those died after the fact...the firebombing of Dresden killed more people, directly.

But we're not talking acts of war, but civilian crimes, at least that's my understanding...you can chop them up into catagories, but if your speaking of single acts of mass murder in a criminal catagory, then...

most by 1 person in 1 day in the U.S.;
Timothy McVeigh (April 23, 1968 - June 11, 2001) with the Oklahoma city bombing claimed 168 lives. It is the deadliest incident of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.

Some of these have higher death counts, but may have been committed by more than one person:

June 23, 1985: Air India Flight 182 bombing over the Atlantic Ocean - 329 killed
December 21, 1988: Pan Am Flight 103 bombing over Scotland - 270 killed
March 12, 1993: Bombay bombings - 257 killed
August 7, 1998: U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania - 224 killed
September 11, 2001: September 11 attacks in the United States - 2,998 killed
October 12, 2002: Bali bombing in Indonesia - 202 killed
March 2, 2004: Ashura massacre in Iraq - 170 killed
March 11, 2004: Madrid train bombings in Spain - 191 killed
September 4, 2004: Beslan school hostage crisis in Russia - 344 killed
February 28, 2005: Al Hillah bombing in Iraq - 127 killed
July 11, 2006: Mumbai train bombings in India - 207 killed
March 27, 2007: Tal Afar bombings and massacre in Iraq - 152 killed
August 14, 2007: Yazidi communities bombings in Iraq - 796 killed
November 26-28, 2008 - 2008 Mumbai attacks in India - 185 killed

Now, if we eliminate murders considered "terrorist attacks" or acts of war, and stick to single individuals committing them and single incidences, and eliminate mass murders committed by heads of a state (sadly considered "legal"), then trying to search for the answer using these criteria becomes almost immpossible...too many people want to throw their political views into the answer, either anti-war, anti-gun, anti-religion, etc.

So I still have to go with the torching of the Happy Land social club in NYC...committed by one man, committed because he was pissed off and wanted to kill people, was not committed due to politics or ideology, was not an act of war, & killed 87 people at once all in one attack.

Good analysis, Skorch.

Of course it really gets complicated,
when you get away from pure kill numbers
and start giving points for style.

For instance, do you take away anything
for Happyland guy's drunken-ness and
the simplicity of his act (arson)?

For pure "wanting to kill people
just because you're pissed off",
Harris/Klebold, and especially
V-Tech guy also have to rank pretty high.

I really have to wonder how come Duder put up this story(yes, of course it is rotten), but NOT the Fort Hood massacre. I have noticed that over the years, that Duder hardly ever puts up stories about our fighting men and women. NOT that I would want him to put up negative stories, but when they are the victims, how come he is not doing it?
Once upon a time, I sent in a story about GIS getting electrocuted, in the showers in Iraq, due to incompetent installation of the electricity. I think Duder finally put it up, when it became huge news, about a year later, lol.
Come on Duder, the dead soldiers were heroes, why not give us the chance to comment on the shooter, etc.?

Well shit, if we're going by THAT logic he coulda killed everyone in the entire building by mixing a few buckets worth of bleach and ammonia together and setting them near the air-handler for the building...

Actually that dude in Cleveland, with the house of horrors, where he kept women that he killed, for years, and the stink was beyond belief, is a pretty rotten story as well. Come on Duder, you are letting the best ones get away. BTW, I have NOT submitted either story, so NO sour grapes here.
