Gun Nuts Gotta Eat Too

"The McDonald's Massacre" incident resulted in 21 deaths and 19 injuries at a McDonald's in the San Ysidro section of San Diego, California, on July 18, 1984.

On October 16, 1991, George Jo Hennard drove his 1987 Ford Ranger pickup truck through the front window of a Luby's Cafeteria Killeen, Texas. About 80 people were in Luby's at the time. He stalked down and killed 23 people and wounded another 20 before dying by suicide. It remained the deadliest shooting rampage in American history until the Virginia Tech Massacre.

Saslaw said he's not necessarily surprised that VCDL found restaurants in the region that would allow them to dine while armed. But he said that carrying guns is simply not normal behavior in this area.

"What normal person walks around with a gun on your hip? Something's wrong in your life" if you feel compelled to carry a gun as part of your daily routine, he said.
----------------------------
Lots of 'normal' people carry guns on a daily basis. Mr. Saslaw, you, sir, are a whiny, sanctimonious twat who expects someone else to fight your battles and protect your property and person. Man up, grow a pair and buy a gun.

>"Lou Sussler, you, sir, are a whiny sanctimonious twat who expects someone >else to fight your battles and protect your property and person."

Shit man, its only stuff. You fricking prig! You call someone else sanctimonious? All I can hope is that you live your life around people that are like you.

What if everyone did as I did...?

Eliminating violent crime? Difficult to impossible.
Eliminating gun related death? Doable.

What it comes down to is the fact that you'd rather kill someone (or are comfortable with threatening to kill someone), and you don't care about the risks you expose others to to do it.

At that time, it was illegal to bring a gun into a Texas restaurant. Suzanna Gratia Hupp, being a law abiding citizen, left her handgun in her car and watched this maniac kill 20 people, including her own parents.

It's largely because of this shooting, and her testimony, that Texas now has concealed carry laws. She later served 10 terms in the Texas House of Reps.

Nzgothpott, in American cities where gun ownership has been mandated by law, crime rates are very low.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1818862/posts

There are guns on every continent and in places with strict gun control, only the criminals, police and military have guns......I don't like those odds.

It might be only material goods to you, but material goods also can mean cattle, horses, dogs, etc.....and while not human life, also defensible in my estimation. Also, it's my shit that I worked and paid for.....not some crackhead/meth head/thief's to haul off and do with as they please. You might be willing to donate to the criminal, but I'm not.

You, sir, are also a whiny sanctimonious twat who expects someone else to fight your battles and protect your property and person. I hope you have someone break into your home and rob you at gun point.

But I guess you have the luxury living in the highly advanced and cosmopolitan nation of New Zealand......

From: tat2dchick [The Tattooed Lady]

Norace, you ignorant twat. Do you have any idea the number of people you come in contact with on a daily basis that carry a concealed weapon (legally or otherwise)? No doubt you would be stunned.

I got my permit due to a stalker. I received quite a large amount of local/state publicity a decade+ ago when I had my business, grew it into something phenomenal in under 3 years and sold it for a few $Million all by the time I was 23. The publicity set me up, and I'd never allow it if I could do it over again because the price of my 15 minutes of fame was too high...my safety (it is also what makes me rather jealously guard any hints of my true identity online; I've already told more than makes me comfortable).

I have no doubt whatsoever that my life was in danger from my fuckhead stalker, who incidentally did just over 4 years in state prison for the crime. He's out now...and I'm still as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs about it.

Would I give up my gun? To quote Mr. Heston, "When you pry it out of my cold, dead hand."

So fuck you and your self serving bullshit. And fuck the NZ hippy asshole too. I don't care about my stuff, it's all replaceable. My life is not.

Many reasons remain:
a) A scumbag breaking into your house or car can't steal your gun if you're carrying it.
b) Domestic animal attack. A few years ago, my friend's wife was attacked by two loose Rotts while on her evening walk to the book/coffee place. Occurred in a populated area. She was hurt pretty badly, but without her weapon she would have been shredded. Those dogs were serious badasses, and if you keep up with the news you know that nice doggies fuck up a shitload of people each year.
c) Wild animal attack. One word: cougar. You don't have to be deep in the sticks to encounter dangerous predators.
d) If someone utters the word "hater" in your presence, you have to shoot him or her immediately. Having a gun helps accomplish this.

Young people are getting meaner and more depraved each year. Cops are getting lazier and more incompetent each year. Thug culture continues to turn blacks into terrible blacks. Cougars and pit bulls are what they are. Protect yourself.

You miss the point here cranky.

I have a VERY valid concern.

Based on the ODDS...
Fer SOME, not ALL..gun advocates,
the "argument" to carry a gun
because of(whatever)...
To me is like saying one would be
"justified" to wear a "lighting rod" on
their head at all times ..

because they "might get struck by
lightening"..
Again, I don't begruge any
one's right to own a gun.
It's the LAW of the land.
I don't pretend to critize Tattoo chick or you
or bella or anyone else I "know" here
the reasons why they carry their weapon.
I don't have that right, of course.

No, my problem is I think
I SHOULD ALSO have a "right"
not to have to worry about an
armed person, a stranger, DRINKING ETOH,

someone I fucking don't know from ADAM,
eating next to me.

Why is that SO hard to get fer you?
I'm not "attacking" you.
And I know there are NOT guns in
MY city restaurants.
Except fer our police folks.
And I REALLY LIKE THAT.

I just feel uncomfortable with people

(STRANGERS, you know, the kind
that can JUST START SHOOTING AWAY),,

that think THEY need to be armed.

Especially in a RESTAURANT.
So, what are the odds?
The way I see it...The more people
AROUND ME PERSONALLY with guns,
the more
CHANCES of accidents, etc..
Sorry , I just don't like those odds,
ESP WHEN it's MY fucking life.

so I guess,
fuck you and yer SELF serving too.

Norace,

Think for a moment here.

The law concerns citizens being legally armed. If someone plans on going into a restaurant and wiping out the patrons, the fact that taking the gun into the restaurant isn't allowed will not stop the nut. It will stop a law-abiding somebody else from taking down the nut when he starts busting caps.

1.More guns equal more

2.People are people.

And, yes. I'm glad and fortunate

Norace, you're the one not thinking......

First, if you take the guns away from law-abiding citizens, you leave them in the hands of criminals, cops and military. NOT good odds. In countries with strict gun control, criminal types do find ways to get firearms.

Second, an armed populace is a populace that has less crime.....see the link I gave to NZ.....

Third, autos are more deadly than guns, but you don't hear folks screaming "car control" every time some toddler dies in a wreck. Sure cars are useful, but so are guns. The cops NEVER prevent crime....they catch criminals who have ALREADY COMMITTED crime. If someone breaks in my house, he will be met with fire....period. I'm not fool enough to call the cops and wait for them to protect me.....they can come get the corpse.

While I agree that no one needs an assault rifle to hunt with, it does come in damned handy when there are prowlers out and about or the local meth head goes on a rampage. Nothing quite gets the attention like a spray of lead. And no, I don't have one and no one I know does.....but I sure would like one.

My friend was in the Westroads mall in Omaha when that Son of a bitch started shooting. I opted to not go with him that day (Thank God I had to work and he left minutes before it happened)
If I was there I would NOT have been a hero. I would have been holed-up in some dark corner shitting myself. However if there was even one person with a shitty nine mil with me I would fell better.
Guns don't go off by themselves. Load one, cock the hammer and put it down. It will stay that way for years. If an establishment doesn't want guns there, fine. The ones that do are still required to not get patrons any where near plastered, so they are still able to think. People that are armed CAN NOT pull their weapon out and waive it around, that is still illegal.

Damn, these dumbass debates is why I don't do my local newspaper's talkback forum any more...If you wanna gun, go getta gun. Personally, I think handguns are like chainsaws; everyone who owns one eventually will be hurt using it.

I'm personally for the right to keep and bear arms, but let's limit it to a choice of three weapons: a blunderbuss, a pennsyltucky flintlock rifle, or a pirate pistol. Your choice. Oh, and also, if you carry the blunderbuss, you have to wear a pilgrim hat. Flintlock? Coonskin cap, of course. pirate pistol? A cap'n crunch-style with skull and cross-bones. That way, carriers will be instantly recognizable and easily avoidable. There. Problem solved.

I used to be a WW-2 battle-reenactor. Once, we all went to dinner, still in uniform: American, British and German. We were not armed, as our rifles were in our cars. We were seated and then a manager came a few minutes later to tell us that the "Nazis" could not be served. I was wearing the uniform of the 11th SS "Reinhard Heydrich" regiment, and stood up to walk out.

Everyone followed me.

Thirty guys times an eight-dollar dinner equals $240 the shitbag manager kissed off that evening.

Nobody I know has ever been back to that restaurant.

Norace:

Just because you's rather take your chances without a weapon on your person does not mean that everyone has to.

You are missing one small point. Several people on this thread have tried to make it but they didn't say it straight out.

That small point is... Every law abiding citizen should ahve the right to be able to protect themselves. When law abiding people aren't allowed to arm themselves to protect themselves from criminals and psychos then they go from being people to being victims. No one should eb forced to become a victim without cause (Felons, Stalkers, etc.)

I'll even go so far as to say that a law abiding person has the responsibility to be able to protect themselves or their family. If you family dies because you chose not to get the devices necessary to protect them then you have failed them.

Personally, I do not take a weapon with me everywhere I go... I tend to only go armed when I'm on a trip. But that is my choice. I probably should be armed when I go out, especially in my profession, but I usually don't bother with it. That is a risk I'm willing to run, however.. and if something should happen then the only person I could blame for it (other than the bad guy) is myself.

I personally would not move to a place that did not let me keep a weapon in the house for protection. I consider it ludicrous that any people would allow their government to take away so basic a right as the right of a person to defend themself. Congratulations, by allowing your government to take away the right of self protection you just devolved from humans to sheep.

i work in reston, va, and here's my perspective:

* reston is in northern, va which is the blue part of the state. most people are for some degree of gun control.

* despite being located a mere 10 miles or so from the NRA hq, people who go to reston to eat (see exceptions below) do NOT normally carry guns around, nor do they desire to. if i'm a restaurant manager, and someone wearing a gun but no badge or uniform comes into my establishment, it just might be a big red flag to deny him/her/them service. the restaurants mentioned in the article are privately owned establishments whose management reserves the right to deny service to anyone for whatever reason they want (e.g., if someone smells less than nice, which is also a person's right as an american).

* most of the people who go to lovely reston to eat live in or very close to the town where seung-hui cho lived and went to or have kids, friends, distant acquaintances, etc. that went to/go to/have been accepted to va tech. most of them are still a bit freaked out by guns. these are not the cowboys and girls who live in the other parts of the state who think they could've singlehandedly prevented the va tech massacre if they only had a gun. these are meek business people and soccer moms we're talking about.

* people who work for the government, law enforcement and the military industrial complex (dyncorp, lockhead, raytheon, etc. are all in reston) do carry guns, and likely several of them will be eating in one of the yuppie hellhole restaurants mentioned in the article at any given time. you'd have to be a moron to try to pull something in any restaurant that serves what's commonly referred to as "american food" in reston, va. let the experienced people shoot at the hypothetical gun-toting bad guys (who are really not a big part of the reston demographic, i might add).

go ahead now. bash away at these facts. it's not like i care if people carry guns, or even mind if a shootout were to happen in reston. the way i look at it, it'd be fewer money-driven, SUV-driving, egoistic dickhead fucks for me to tolerate on a day-today basis. i'm just saying that custom is king for these WASPy scumbags, and carrying a gun is not their custom. a restaurant owner has a lot to risk by admitting the gun loving one percent at the expense of the monied many.

as you have said in your own posts, no one in your quaint, small town

I'm curious what rights you would not give up? In post after post
(not just this thread)you make it abundantly clear that if a thing is
good for the greater society then you are all for it. Personal freedoms
and individual rights seem to scare you. Just because you might be unable
to make decisions for yourself and your family does not mean that others
are equally incapable. I don't need mommy and daddy government standing

for people that can not care for themselves, I wish people like you
that need to be told what to do and what to think and say all the time
would check into that.

I do not need to wave a gun around, nor would I. I have a great
deal of self control, perhaps you have none and think
the rest of the world shares your feelings there also.

Does a gun make me feel more powerful? No but in
certain situations it would make me feel (and be) safer.

As for a gun being a penis, sorry my man has a nice penis
I don't need a substitute, maybe you have issues of some sort.

The Gun Control Issue is a firecracker subject, no matter which side of the fence you tread.

I support the 2nd Amendment. I have trained in the Armed Forces (Marines). I have spent many years learning, and refining my skills with small arms, and have reached the Classification of 'Expert' with them.

For those who do NOT want to carry/bear arms, go for it! Ain't our Country a GREAT place to live!?

For those who DO wish to carry arms, go for it! Ain't our Country a GREAT place to live!?

Sadly, it is not. Politicians, and local Law Enforcement (that's a misnomer if ever there was one!), would gladly see the entire public (those who are 'Law abiding', mind!) without the means to defend ourselves against an armed criminal element.

For each and every incident of a Criminal shooting the populace, all I have to say to the 'Naysayers' is, "Which scenerio would YOU rather find yourself in: 1)ARMED and having the means to protect NOT only yourselves, but those around you?, or 2)UNARMED, and at the literal mercy of the Armed Assailant, with literally NO hope of intervention?

Think about THAT for awhile...

For those willing, and able, to train themselves in Armed Defense, 'WHY' should anyone else worry?

For those willing to use a firearm AGAINST Civilians illegally,,,,

Well,,,, I KNOW you would think twice about it, if you KNEW there were an armed populace right next to you, ready to punch your fucking ticket if you ever actually got out of hand!

So, in the end, you have a very simple choice-

1)Be sheep, ready for a slaughter
2)Be Armed, ready to defend yourself/others.

Seems quite simple.

But I doubt the American populace has the balls to stand up for itself, when it really matters.

*sighs*

Too bad.

I once thought this Country to be a very great Democracy.

I am learning the error of my thinking.

I would assume that old Chuck Heston's gun has indeed been pried out of his cold dead hands. You don't want bury a perfectly good firearm, unless it's in a water and airtight container that only you know the whereabouts of.

For many carrying a gun is like a single person owning condoms. Do they expect to fuck someone every night? Do they expect someone to fuck them around every corner? No, of course not. However, it is better to have one, and not need it, then it is to need one and not have it.

A loaded gun can not "accidentally" discharge any more than a condom can "accidentally" put itself on someones dick.

Firing any firearm is no more of a "power trip" for me

It is a "trip" in mind and body control. Breath control,

shot (an eidetic image of the sights at the moment the
trigger "breaks").

norace, "accidental discharge" of a gun almost always means NEGLIGENT discharge. BTW, to continue the penis analogy you favor- I see a lot of the results of the penile version of ND walking around, wasting perfectly good Oxygen and clogging the aisles at Wal-Mart...

Since you're not able to wish the bad old penises (er, guns) under the cornfield, you should be happy that sensible owners do practice using them properly, rather than dissing them for it.

I've been around guns for all my life and have heard many of them discharge. None accidentally, someone always pulled the trigger.

I do have a purchase selection for ya Norace. How about a copy of the Constitution?

Currently I own 3 long guns and one handgun. I never carry them and do not at the moment have a CCW. The main reason for that is I would need a new handgun since the one I own has been passed down and I can't register it. I don't feel the threat of needing one outside of my home enough to justify the purchase. My expendable income isn't such to make said purchase. But I do take solace that there are many of my fellow citizens that do.

But here's the thing. I don't expect to be in a car accident. I don't expect my house to catch on fire. I don't expect to go to the hospital. I don't expect to die early. Yet I carry insurance just in case. I don't live in New Orleans but I know that where I live can be devastated by an earthquake or tornado. The firearms I have at home is to protect me and my family in such a case. Ask how many people in New Orleans would have wished to have had a gun during Katrina. Ask how many of them thought the police and government would be there to protect them.

I'll end on a happy note. Have a Happy Birthday and hope you and the wifey and some wild and kinky sex.

Better yet, buy yourself one of these.

Wow, thanks for all the flames.

I'm not going to address them except to say that, of course, I disagree with them all.

I seriously think that the 2nd amendment should be repealed. Let the states decide how they want to handle gun ownership individually. If a state wants to regulate guns like they regulate automobiles, fine let them.

My reading (and I'm not alone) is that a plain language reading of the 2nd does not give people the right to owns guns anyway. Repealing it would be of little consequence in states like Texas and Virginia where the majority of people seem to support the idea that the citizenry should be armed. It would be of tremendous benefit to states which agree with the idea that gun ownership should be regulated. This country regulates lots and lots of things successfully and I'm not sure why you believe that guns should be exempt.

Look at that, I stated an opposing viewpoint without resorting to vile name calling. Damned impressive.

I used to piss my pants on purpose because I knew I was going to do it anyway, but I never ran away.

I doubt any Americans have been shelled that way since Correigidor in 1942, or maybe Bastogne in 1944, so why don't you just fuck the fucking fuck off?

Let's see you do three months of that, and three years of fedeal prison afterward. You aren't tough. You don't know what "tough" is.

I don't carry a gun to kill people.

I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.

I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

"Police Protection" is an oxymoron.
Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime,
they usually just investigate the crime after it happens
and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die
and too old to take an *ss kickin'.

John Steinbeck issued a warning that all should remember:
"Don't pick a fight with an old man.
If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
