It's been a lot of years since I last visited Fredericton, but it doesn't seem like a great place for skateboarding anyway...hilly and such? Maybe I'm thinking of a more northerly town...Canadians want to help me out here?

Breen turned himself in at the Fredericton provincial courthouse on Wednesday, where a judge signed a warrant for his arrest, and he was taken into custody by deputies. He is expected to be transported to the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Wednesday afternoon. It is not yet clear if he will have to serve the full five days. ---------------------- Oddly enough, it will cost more than his fine would have earned to house this guy for five days. Now, the jurisdiction is out not only the $100 dollars of the fine, but also the cost of housing and feeding skater boy for the better part of a week. Priceless.

Plus he'll be ENVIROMENTALLY unfriendly as HELL by forcing the LAW to jail him. Probably has cost 2 30 foot trees alone just in the paperwork involved here and afterwards. i'm sorry your mom died, and i'm sorry you got teased by the popular kids in highschool. I'm a little curious as to the relevance of point number 3 where you bring up how skateboarders cause accidents where people are walking. I do believe this is concerning the street, and the article clearly explains that if you use the necessary precautions accidents are not an issue. Also in point number 5 you say that no one gives a shit what i think, yet you clearly do, and i have obviously pushed your buttons the wrong way. As much as i love to argue on the internet with morbidly obese cyber-warriors about why it is a waste of time and resources to ticket somebody for using alternative forms of transportation (in this case more than likely a longboard, which is not a "trick" board, but a quick form of getting around), i guess i'll just give up and concede, yes you win. I am clearly an idiot. I am 28 and still skateboard. It is a mini-ramp on private property though. Regardless -- skate or die  Most people can barely stand on a skateboard let alone bomb a hill or destroy a half-pipe. Skateboarding is mainstream for kids nowadays so older people that grew up skating distance themselves from this bullshit anyway. Pay the fucking fine and get a haircut and learn a marketable job skill.

I see nothing wrong with skateboarding. It is a form exercise, although not my type and I wouldn't do it. But if more kids got their asses outside and skateboarded, rode a bike, built a treehouse in their backyard, and play outside more they wouldn't be so damn fat.

The only time I had any problem with skateboarders was right after I had broken my leg and getting around became a major pain in the ass. I was trying to get out of my friend's pickup truck without slamming my leg into the pavement while grabbing for my crutches, when a gaggle of sk8erz rolled my way ready to "stick it to the man". A quick clothesline to the lead prick of the pack made them rethink very quickly, and by the time he got to his feet I was already inside and propping my aching tootsies on the footstool.

The skaters I find the most entertaining are the ones who skateboard on strip mall property clearly marked "No skateboarding." Skateboarding might not be a crime, but trespassing is. The problem these property owners are faced with that the juvenile mindset of a skateboarder does not seem able to grasp, is lawsuit liability. Suppose a skater hits a real customer and injures them. That customer's lawyer is not going to sue the skateboarder, who probably owns nothing more valuable than some pirated CDs nobody else would want to listen to. No; the costomer's lawyer is going to sue the property owner for not enforcing rules against skateboarding. Let's suppose it is only the skateboarder who gets hurt. Are that skateboarder's parents going to just say "We hope you learned your lesson"? No, they're going to sue the property owner. Now, these property owners carry insurance, and insurance will generally always pay out on an accidental tort - though never a deliberate one - but insurance companies, like owners of business properties are there to make money, so the usual result is that the insurance folks raise the business owner's rates, or they cancel his policy outright. What property owner in his right mind is going to be willing to eat a bunch of liability for the benefit of a punk kid he does't know and who's behavior he has no control over?

Thats the differents with parents nowadays compared to when I was growing up. If I did something stupid and got myself hurt, even if it was on somebody elses property, my parents would ground my ass and I'd get in trouble for being careless. Today's parents will just sue their child's best friends parents (that they've known for years) over an accident, like their kids were roughhousing on the trampoline and fell off or something. ................
