Aww...give the guy a break will ya? It isn't easy being a born again samuri warriar you know. Besides, the chainsaw was probably cheaper than a sword. Sushi any body ?

I've been living in Asia for some years now, and those fucking "free readers" still piss me off, even though I don't own the store. They just go, grab anything, and read it. And the best of all - they are all Asians, but foreign news magazines are wrapped in plastic. Cyggas!

"Officers found the saw still running outside the front entrance when they arrested him." So, he showed up at the shop with a running chainsaw. I really don't think this was some crazy idle threat.

I noted it was a Husqvarna. I am happy to see that crazed Japanese newsreaders prefer the best in European chainsaws.

I didn't know they had 7-11s in Japan. I bet they let him finish his reading from now on.

Had it been me, I would have pulled out the big S&W Model 500 I have behind the counter and shot his head off. You know, self-defense...

Silly cops. The chainsaw was to take the plastic cover off the magazines.

Same here. This story made me smile all day. I wish it would've happened in Texas though.

Say, it was a shame it didn't happen in Dade County Miami, as the cops would have great fun using their standard equipment cattle prods and tasers on him!

Standing around and reading for free is a common practice in Japan. Until recently--and certainly during this old dude's heyday--it was acceptable practice, even expected. There's even a Japanese word for it: "tachiyomi" (standing-reading). So the manager could have cut him some fucking slack. Having said that, the typical passive-aggression shown by the old dude is priceless and typical of the weird shit that goes on over there.

Daniels told NBC 5 he that he detonated the makeshift explosives because he liked the sound they made ------------------- you simply cannot argue with that sort of logic. bombs do sound cool, though.

The manager admitted that it was an accepted practice, and normally they wouldn't care, but this guy was in there for hours every day. They gave this guy about 1000 miles of slack before they finally got fed up with him.

As usual everyone seems to have missed the point of the article .The old man had probably just finished reading that yet another attack by the scurge of Tokyo (GODZEERA) was planning another of his horrible attacks that decimated so many hard working Japanese during the 50s ,60s, and rite thru till the 70s im sure that this elderley gentleman was laughed at my this punk store clerk who is too young to recall the carnage and loss of electricity due to the repeated trouncings on the power stations and power lines. Remember what Lee I. Acoca said "those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it and get trampled by monsters"

How did this geezer have that much time to stand around reading? Perhaps this was a prelude to some high-tech hari-kiri! Oh yeah, baby! -- CC
